GENESEO – The SUNY Geneseo Ice Knights lost at home to the Hobart Statesmen 7-4 Saturday evening.
The Knights’ Trevor Hills and the Statesmen’s Brad Robbins each tallied two goals on the evening. The Statesmen held a significant shot on goal advantage, totaling 56 to the Knights’ 35. There was no love lost as these teams battled for victory. A total of 27 penalties were called resulting in 132 minutes of penalty time.
The Ice Knights got off to a strong start in the 1st period when sophomore Trevor Hills scored the first goal of the game. A few minutes later, junior David Ripple added a power play goal to give the Knights a 2-0 lead. The visiting Statesmen fired back with a power play goal of their own, making the score 2-1 heading into the first intermission.
With 16:29 remaining in the 2nd period, senior Tyler Brickler scored the third goal for the Knights but junior Brad Robbins brought the Statesmen back within one with 6:55 remaining in the 2nd.
Hills scored his second goal of the evening for the Knights with 4:51 remaining in the 2nd to bring the score to 4-2. Senior Ryan Michel fired back less than a minute later, making the score 4-3 at the close of the 2nd period.
Statesmen seniors Robert Sovik and Sean Rudy each scored in the first minute of the 3rd period to give Hobart a 5-3 lead. A set of power play goals from senior Tommaso Traversa and junior Brad Robbins sealed the win for the Statesmen with a final score of 7-4.
The Knights play again on Thursday, January 15 at 7p.m. as they challenge Neumann University on the road.
