LETCHWORTH – The SUNY Geneseo Knights came away from their home meet victorious, beating all opposing teams on both the Men’s and Women’s sides.
The Men won their title scoring 41 points, the Women scoring a dominating 35 to capture victory.
“They passed with flying colors,” renounced Coach Mike Woods said after the races. “Last weekend was a good race, but this race was better.”
Coach Mike Woods has been with the program for 23 years. This Geneseo Invitational served as his last with the team, and they made it count. As a 21 time SUNYAC Coach of the year, Coach Woods has fostered numerous All Americans. In 2005, Coach Woods led the Women’s team to the programs first National victory. With a total of 124 combined All American honors since his arrival, Coach Woods has been an invaluable piece of the SUNY Geneseo Cross Country/Track and Field program.
Alfredo Mazuca was first across the line for the Men, taking fourth overall. Their top five also included Cohen Miles-Rath (5), Brendan Wortner (6), Adam Murphy (7), and Issac Garcia-Cassani (19).
Senior Cassie Goodman won the overall title in the Women’s race for the Knights, with a time of 21:29 over the 6,000 meter course. Rounding out their top 5 was Alyssa Knott, Joanna Castrogivanni, Marissa Bellusci, and Jackie Huben. These ladies took places 4, 9, 10, and 11 respectively.
The Knights race again Saturday, October 18 in Oberlin, Ohio. The races will begin at 11 a.m.
