Featured pieces will include “I Was Glad”, an anthem from composer Hubert Parry, along with “Three Pieces from Schindler’s List”, and the feature; the Faure “Requiem”.
“The Hubert Parry anthem ‘I Was Glad’ has been used for major coronations,” said Professor of Music James Walker. “It’s absolutely pompous, stalely, and way over the top. It’s a great way to open a program.”
Three individuals from the Children’s Choir will be performing solos. These include Miranda Blood, Katerine Nieves, and Marita Zerbe. Other notable performers include Eric Trumpowsky, a renowned artist who has teamed up with the Eastman-Rochester Chorus among other groups. Peter Povey will also be performing, SUNY Geneseo’s newest Music Department’s faculty member, who’s musical studies began at age 3.
The Genesee Valley Children’s Choir was established in 2010, with goals to ensure that all children have an opportunity to view and enjoy a myriad of different musical experiences.
The concert will be free, and open to any who wish to attend. The concert will take place Sunday, November 23 at 3 p.m at the Wadsworth Auditorium.
