GENESEO – Four SUNY Geneseo student-athletes were recognized with weekly honors by the SUNY Athletic Conference on Monday.
Seniors Shannon McGinnis and Gordon Lyons were named Women’s and Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, respectively, and the Knights also swept the swimming honors as first-year swimmer Melinda King earned Female Swimmer of the Week and first-year Derek Secord was named male Swimmer of the Week.
McGinnis has been on a roll all season; most recently, she led the Knights to a victory over Buffalo State with 23 points, 15 rebounds and six assists and logged her 12th double-double of the season with 24 points and 10 rebounds in a 74-61 victory over New Paltz on Friday, February 13.
Lyons played a key role in sparking the Knights to a 3-0 SUNYAC run last week, including a 33 point, 15 rebound performance against Buffalo State and a 27 point, 14 rebound, 9 assist and 4 steal game against Oneonta. Lyons is also now third on Geneseo’s all-time scoring list with 1,544 points.
King won two individual events and swam on a winning relay team to lead the Knights at the Ithaca Invitational on Saturday, February 14. She swept the 100 (1:00.68) and 200 (2:16.50) butterfly events while teaming with sophomore Alayna Mlodozeniec, junior Caroline Russo and sophomore Julia Pucciarelli to win the 400 freestyle relay (3:48.29).
Secord won the 50 freestyle (21.84) and the 100 freestyle (48.84) at the Ithaca Invitational on Saturday.
