GENESEO – SUNY Geneseo senior basketball player Gordon Lyons is being recognized for his performance on the court as well as his impressive academic performance off the court.
Lyons has been named to the 2014-15 Capital One First-Team Academic All-District III men’s basketball team, as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Lyons is an accounting major with a 3.77 GPA and is being recognized with the award for the second consecutive season. He will now move on to the national ballot where, if selected, he will become the first two-time Academic All-American in SUNY Geneseo’s history.

Lyons is currently leading the nation in rebounding with 13.2 per game and is ranked 2nd in double-doubles with 17 this season. He leads the SUNY Athletic Conference in rebounds, points, and double-doubles while ranking 2nd in field goal percentage (54.8%).
Lyons is also currently in 4th place on the scoring list with 1,452 points, and has the second most rebounds in Geneseo history with 923.
Lyons is a seven-time Dean’s List honoree and a three-time SUNYAC All-Academic Team and two time SUNYAC Commissioner’s List member along with being named the SUNYAC Chancellor’s Scholar-Athlete Award winner in 2013. He is also an active member of the Geneseo Accounting Society and represents the men’s basketball team on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, as well as serving as a mentor for first-year students during the Geneseo Leadership Symposium.
Last summer, he completed an accounting/auditing internship with Tronconi, Segarra & Associates in Buffalo, N.Y., assisting with client engagements and debtor audits, as well as participating in client 401(k) reviews among his other duties.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average in at least their sophomore season and be a starter or a key reserve. First-team honorees from all eight districts in the nation move on to the national ballot where they will be in the running for Academic All-America status. Lyons was named a second-team Academic All-America last.
