GENESEO – Some of the youngest runners on the field at this year’s Oak Tree 5K made the biggest strides.
For one, Catherine Staley, 10, was the first female across the finish line with a time of 20:00 flat. She broke the age group record by 34 seconds and improved 44 seconds from her time last year. Her goal was 20:34.
Nicholas Cunningham, 16, led the race until the last hill, where he was overtaken by Paul Rellstab, 30, of Geneseo, an accomplished Oak Tree alum. He finished just seconds over the 18-minute mark at 18:07.
The Oak Tree Half Marathon and 5K remains one of the region’s top running events. This year, over 600 runners came to Geneseo from 12 states and Canada.
