LIVONIA – Original Stump Blower Ciderworks is doubling their production capabilities with the money from the BrewINLivingston competition.
Owner Eric K. Smith said that the purchase of this 1,000 gallon, 30-barrel tank will let them put out twice the product to the 60 bars and restaurants that sell their cider.
“We kind of went for the Cadillac of [tanks] with the grant money that we got from New York State and BrewINLivingston which really helped us out a lot,” said Smith.
It took a village just to get the tank into the cidery at 5901 Big Tree Road in Lakeville.
“We ordered it from Vance Manufacturing. They did our other tanks so we kind of stuck with the same company,” said Smith. “We know them, they know us. They’re local, from Geneva. They do a lot of the tanks in the wineries and stuff. Basically they shipped it out here. Smith Lumber, they graciously brought down their forklift to lift it up for us because we don’t have a forklift yet. Then about eight of my friends, we got a sheet pizza and we just kind of stood it up. So it was a pretty intense few minutes. It’s kind of scary, you have over $10,000 of stainless steel and you’re just kind of like ‘OK hold on guys, don’t drop it!'”
As always, it’s onward and upward at OSB.
“Demand is there, yeah,” said Smith. “Every day we have new people calling us and we’re at the point where it’s kind of cruising smooth right now and this is going to send us to the next level.”
