LIVINGSTON COUNTY – Two bridges, one in Sparta and one in West Sparta, are now under the care of the County Highway Department.
This means that the County Highway Department will handle maintenance and repairs though these bridges are on Town Roads.
Recent expansions to both structures made them over 25 feet in span. A 1948 resolution from the County Board of Supervisors authorizes County Highway to take over care of any bridge on a town road that spans 25 feet or more.
The County Highway Department, headed by Don Higgins, is now responsible for 74 bridges.
