GENESEO — The 4th seed Geneseo Blue Devils beat 5th seed North Rose-Wolcott Cougars 2-1 in the 2nd round of the playoffs.
This was a pitching dual all the way, both team only had a combined total of 9 hits. The game was scoreless until the top of the 6th inning. North Rose-Wolcott strung a couple of hits together to take the lead 0-1. That wouldn’t be enough as the Blue Devils answered back with Samarys Gomez’s big RBI double. Jessica Ruskauff followed with a RBI single scoring Gomez. The Blue Devils held off the Cougars to close out the victory 2-1.
“We normally hit better then that but we had our pitching and defense there.” said Geneseo Head Coach Chris Masters.
On the mound Ruskauff had a strong performance allowing 3 hits while striking out 11 batters. She also went 3 for 3 with a RBI and a double.
“Having a great defense behind me really helps,” said Jessica Ruskauff. “At this point we’ve got a pretty good chance at a sectional title.”
