Student Filmmakers Recognized at Youth Film Festival

PERRY — Fifteen student filmmakers in Genesee Valley and the Greater Rochester area were recognized for their achievement at the Arts Council of Wyoming County, ACWC, Youth Film Festival Awards ceremony this past July.

The student filmmakers were from grades K-12, and the event drew attendees from throughout the region.

Listed below are the 2013 award winners as determined by ACWC Classic Film Series patrons:

• People’s Choice Award for Achievement in Video K-3: Sweet Smile by Bailey Briggs; Spencerport Central School
• People’s Choice Award for Achievement in Video 4-6: No Escape From Buffering by Solomon Hauser; Perry Central School
• People’s Choice Award for Achievement in Video 7-9: Who You Are by Jacob Burritt; Wayland-Cohocton Central School
• People’s Choice Award for Achievement in Video 10-12: Living With Fear by James Monroe Video Club; Rochester City School District
• Golden Holstein Jury Prize for Special Achievement: Avatar: The Last Airbender by Tristen Stafford; South Seneca Central School
• The Winsor McCay Recognition Award for Achievement in Animation K-3: Mermaid by Leah O’Geen; Warsaw Central School
• The Winsor McCay Recognition Award for Achievement in Animation K-3: Bear Seasons by Jorja Calteaux; Warsaw Central School
• The Winsor McCay Recognition Award for Achievement in Animation 4-6: Banana and Strawberry Macarena! by Rosemary Byington and Sarah Giovine; Naples Central School
• The Eadweard Muybridge Recognition Award for Achievement in Video 4-6: The Missing Kid by Jordan Perdue, Kyle Ullock, and Cody Van Nostrand; Livonia Central School
• The Georges Melies Recognition Award for Achievement in Video 4-6: The Inescapable Dream by jacob French; Geneseo Central School
• The Edwin S, Porter Recognition Award for Achievement in Video 7-9: The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Jordyn Condrate and Sarah Cotton; Dansville Central School
• The Charles Pathe Recognition Award for Achievement in Video 7-9: Food and Drug by Stephanie Shtoyko; Hilton Central School
• The Windsor McCay Recognition Award for Achievement in Animation 7-9: Seasons by Holly Benkleman, Brooke Lehr, Brooke Proper, Mikayla Sheffield, and Brianna Wagner; Warsaw Central School
• The Edwin S, Porter Recognition Award for Achievement in Video 10-12: To Skip or Not to Skip by Angel Lopez; Rochester City School District
• The Windsor McCay Recognition Award for Achievement in Animation 10-12: Untitled by Nicholas McMullen; Pembroke Central School

The ACWC annual open house will be held on December 7 at 4 p.m.  The ACWC open house is held in conjunction with the East Canyon Artisans’ Sale and the Perry Holiday Delights Festival. Visitors are invited to attend the open house and visit the gallery,  and to purchase original arts and crafts made by local artists.
