NYLON – According to 13 WHAM News, Governor Andrew Cuomo confirmed that Strong Memorial Hospital is one of eight hospitals in New York State designated to handle any Ebola cases. Cuomo said it’s unlikely that Ebola will show up in NYS, but wouldn’t be surprised, given the high level of travel into and through New York.
Officials at the Livingston County Health Department say that they support the mobilization of a hospital in Western New York against Ebola. Jennifer Rodriguez, the Public Health Director for the Health Department, said that though it is unlikely, Livingston County is at a slight risk for infection, given that so many local colleges have students that circulate all over the world.
“We feel confident that they’ve chosen a hospital in the Western region of the state,” said Jennifer Rodriguez, “We have a lot of colleges in Western New York, and some international students come from affected countries. Elim Bible Institute in Lima has a lot of missionaries, and they may go to and come back from affected areas.”
“We do need to be prepared,” added Rodriguez. “Though it is frightening, we need to keep calm and work together, and move forward.”
