GENESEO – A big bunny has hopped right into the spotlight on Main Street as smitten and sometimes concerned community members continue to paparazzi him with photos and comments on social media, sometimes trying to ‘rescue’ him only to find that he is supposed to roam.
Meet ‘Papa Flemingway,’ a free ranging rabbit with an appetite for attention. Many concerned community members, especially SUNY Geneseo students, have taken to Facebook within the past few weeks, either saying they have rescued the bunny or spreading the word that he belongs out and about.
“If you cross roads with the bunny, it is o.k. to say hello but then it’s all good to let him be on his merry way,” said SUNY Geneseo student Anne Pyrak, whose landlord Pam is Papa Flemingway’s official owner.
“The first day I met her,” said Anne, “Pam said the rabbit just wanders around then comes back.”
With lots of Facebook traffic on photos and posts revolving around the bunny since a student originally posted a photo posing with him on Sept. 19, he has become a magnet for love.
However, Papa Flemmingway may not be weaving through Main Street for long. His owner will soon return to her home in Florida.
Papa Flemingway’s favorite hangouts are near EuroCafe and Geneseo Family Restaurant. Photos and comments are welcome, but Pyrak says it’s best to let the rambler keep rambling.
