GENESEO – A young woman was arrested after her release from Strong Memorial Hospital for stealing and inhaling, or ‘huffing,’ multiple cans of ‘Dust-Off’ air duster outside the Walmart on Veteran Drive on Saturday.
According to a press release from Geneseo Police Chief Eric Osganian, Chelsey Aten, 20, of Groveland, was hospitalized and then arrested for Petit Larceny and Inhalation of Hazardous Fumes after she allegedly stole several cans of ‘Dust-Off’ and was found huffing outside of the store.
“This is the second or third time we’ve arrested [Aten],” said Chief Osganian. “The other times she has locked herself in the Walmart bathroom and huffed. We took her straight to Strong as a precaution, since she seemed so intoxicated. ”
Aten will answer her charges in Geneseo Village Court in January. Chief Osganian added that Aten has been in many other situations like this in the past year.
“We have had multiple run-ins with her for this and related offenses,” added Osganian. “It’s very sad and alarming, she clearly has a serious problem and needs some help.”
Officer Dylan DiPasquale handled the arrest, and Geneseo Ambulance transported her to the hospital.
