In response to greatly increased customer traffic, the restaurant recently built a new Dockside Grill offering Mexican food and ice cream, a Beach Shop retail store, and “The Beachcomber Inn,” a few well furnished rooms complete with kitchenettes for out of towners to stay in.
“I’ve been doing this for my entire life,” said Mary Alice May, owner of the Beachcomber, “and that’s what really feels good, working hard and getting a great response from people.”
May credited her restaurant’s recent success to continued hype by regulars, expanded menus, and expanded grounds.
Several of the Beachcomber’s staff remarked that 2013 was the first year that the restaurant stayed open year-round. Though the lake shore froze in the winter months, the restaurant still hosted themed, family friendly parties that allegedly got an overwhelmingly positive response.
The Beachcomber’s Crab Shack has featured live music by local artists for many years, including Tony Infantino of WARM 101.3 in Rochester, who draws hundreds of people to his family-friendly concerts every other weekend.
May added that the Beachcomber’s new attractions, and the guesthouses especially, pull in a clientele that she has never had before.
“A completely different kind of traffic comes through the Beachcomber Inn,” said May, “some of whom have never been to New York State before. I am always so psyched that they want to come by.”
