GENESEO– All eyes were on the head mechanic of the Geneseo School District this month as he accepted his Mechanic of the Year Award at the annual banquet for the New York Association for Pupil Transportation (NYAPT) in Albany.
NYAPT joined with the Pupil Transportation Safety Institute to recognize Bob Holbrook, a long-time school bus mechanic whose service has kept Geneseo’s children safe on their ride to and from school every day. Geneseo Central School District Superintendent Tim Hayes remarked that Holbrook is about as good a professional mechanic as he could ask for.
“Bob Holbrook has been a model employee throughout his years at Geneseo Central,” said Hayes. “He is the consumate professional. I’m sure there are many really good mechanics across New York State, but the people of the Geneseo Central School Community know that the selection committee got it exactly right in selecting Bob Holbrook as the Mechanic of the Year.”
Officials at the banquet especially noted Holbrook’s diligent working relationship with the district’s drivers, superb analytical skills, his ability to diagnose and fix engine problems, and his uncanny knowledge of all components of a school bus. Holbrook was also honored for his role as a mentor for other mechanics and technicians, and his excellent reputation with the children of the school district.
According to NYAPT, the Geneseo school bus fleet, under Holbrook’s eye, received a 100% pass rate from the State Transportation Department this year, and has maintained a pass rate above 90% for every year in recent memory.
