LIVONIA – The New York State Association of Town Clerks has certified Town Clerk Colleen West Hay as a Registered Municipal Clerk.
Town Supervisor Eric Gott announced Hay’s award at the June 1 Town Board meeting at Vitale Park.
“This prestigious award recognizes the professional competency of Colleen in fulfilling the responsibilities of her office,” said Gott. “I want to congratulate you, Colleen. We’ve always known that you ran a professional, courteous office but I’m glad you’re being recognized.”
The Town’s website says that ‘the clerk’s office is frequently considered the center of Town government.’
The website says that it is not only the office which is responsible for recording activities of the Town government, but it is the central place in which are filed the documents and papers vital to the lives of the townspeople.
The website lists the clerk’s roles, which include but are not limited to: custodian of all records for the Town, coordinator of the Town’s Records Management Program, clerk of the Town Board, Registrar of Vital Statistics, and Town/County Tax Collector. The clerk issues many types of licenses and permits, such as hunting / fishing licenses, handicap parking permits, dog licenses, and marriage licenses.
