Michael E. VanScooter, age 61, passed away unexpectedly in Wayland to the late James & Betty (Daly) VanScooter. Mike worked for State Department of Transportation for 22 years and was planning on retiring in the spring of 2022. He enjoyed playing baseball in his younger years, going to baseball games, camping (much to his wife’s dismay), going for long rides in the car. Most of all, Mike loved his children and grandchildren and spending time with them on the tractor and four wheeling.
Mike was a community man and made many contributions to the Webster Crossing/Springwater area and beyond. He was a life member of the Springwater Fire Department, was on the Erwin Cemetery Board and even helped his dad dig graves there and at Arnold Cemetery in Conesus. When the residents of Webster Crossing needed something, the always knew who to call; whether it was shoveling a sidewalk, changing a lightbulb or moving something heavy, the people of Webster Crossing would call upon the VanScooter men; they were, and continue to be, proud and honored to help wherever needed.
Mike is survived by his wife of 35 years, Pamela A. (Hamsher) VanScooter; his children: Logan (Jordan), Morgan (James Bill), Nick (Tanya), Jasmine (Zack) VanScooter & Alyssa (Gary) Towner; his grandchildren: Harper & Isabella Bill, Alana Wyatt and Aubree, Landon, & Lydia Towner; his siblings: Penny (John) Bovee, James VanScooter Jr., Tammy (Gary Forrester) VanScooter & Betty Jo VanScooter; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, & friends. In addition to his parents, Mike was predeceased in death by his sister, Sandra Lee VanScooter in 1955. Family & friends are invited to call from 11am – 1:30pm on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home, Inc. in Wayland where funeral services will be held at 1:30pm. Burial will take place at Erwin Cemetery in Springwater where a fireman’s service will be held. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution to the Golisano Children’s Hospital online at URMC.Rochester.EDU/Childrens-Hospital.aspx or by mail at Golisano Children’s Hospital, PO Box 278996, Rochester NY
