Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty reports the arrest of a Sparta resident on drug related charges after a traffic stop.
On January 25th, 2021 at about 3:30pm Deputy Justin Hilt was assigned to the Sheriff’s Office STOP DWI Unit when he stopped a vehicle on West Lake Road, in the Town of Geneseo, for a violation of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law.
The operator of the vehicle was identified as Dakota S. Coons, age 19 from Sparta NY. During the stop, Coons was suspected to be involved in drug activity which prompted a roadside drug investigation.
The roadside investigation revealed that Coons was in possession of a quantity of suspected marijuana, as well as a quantity of suspected concentrated cannabis. The suspected drugs were field tested and both tested positive for THC.
Coons was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana in the 2nd Degree.
Coons was turned over to Central Booking Deputies at the Livingston County Jail for processing and released on an appearance ticket to return to the Geneseo Town Court at a later date, as the
