The Golden Knights took an early lead in the first and continued to lead in what was a close game, ending 3-1. Until the top of 7th inning, the Golden Knights broke it open with a Single by Hanna Wolfhanger and back to back RBI (Runs Batted In) doubles by Becca Fuller and Mercedes MacGonegal. This lead to a 8-1 upset over the Bulldogs.
“The Key was Emily Leone threw just one walk and gave us a lot of ground balls and pop ups,” York Head Coach Rob Kersch commenting on his team’s play. “Our defense played very fundamentally sound tonight.”
In the bottom of 7th the Bulldogs had the bases loaded with one out. The play of the game came from shortstop Becca Fuller as she fielded the ground ball cleanly, tagged the runner going to third, and then beats the runner to second base getting the force out in a game ending double play.
The York Golden Knights take on the number 2 seed Alfred-Almond Eagles on Thursday (5/25) at Keshequa Central School at 5 p.m.
