DANSVILLE – Two young men have been arrested and charged with felony level larceny and felony level criminal mischief charges after allegedly stealing three vehicles in Dansville and North Dansville, and more local charges are pending for other thefts from parked cars.
According to a press release from Livingston County Sheriff Thomas Dougherty, Christopher Swick, 29, of Dansville and Luis Santos, 19, of Avon, were arrested for Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree and Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree.
The Sheriff’s Office, the Dansville Police Department and later the Mount Morris Police Department conducted an investigation into the thefts on three stolen vehicles occurring the in the Village of Dansville and the Town of North Dansville.
Swick and Santos were quickly identified as suspects after trying to sell one of the stolen vehicles in Mount Morris. That vehicle was recovered and after further investigation, the other two vehicles were also recovered. All of the vehicles had sustained some damage as a result of the thefts. One of the vehicles was driven into a wooded area in an attempt to hide it.
The Sheriff’s Office charged Swick and Santos with Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree and Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree for the vehicle that was stolen from North Dansville. Swick and Santos were arraigned before Judge Werth in the Town of North Dansville Court on the charges. Santos was remanded to the Livingston County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond. Swick was remanded to the Livingston County Jail and held with no bail due to prior felony convictions.
Swick and Santos will face further charges from the Dansville Police Department and the Mount Morris Police Department in regards to the stolen vehicles. Also during the investigation, numerous items of property were recovered that Swick and Santos had stolen out of other vehicles from the Dansville area. Further charges are pending on those incidents as well.
Investigating for the Sheriff’s Office were Investigator Dan Rittenhouse and Investigator Brad Schneider, along with members of the Forensic Identification Unit of the Sheriff’s Office. Investigating from the Dansville Police Department was Officer Shannon Griese and from the Mount Morris Police Department was Chief Ken Mignemi.
