DANSVILLE — Late last night Dansville Fire Department along with Livingston County Sheriffs responded to a call about a fire on Cemetery Road in North Dansville at approximately 1:42 a.m.
The fire had engulfed the home of the VanDurme family by the time the first responders came to the scene.
“It woke me up at about 2 a.m. in the morning, I saw trucks flying up and down the road,” said Bill Ferrell, a neighbor of the VanDurme family.
The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office stated that the family escaped the burning home without injury, due to smoke detectors within the home.
According to Joe Snyder, a volunteer firefighter for Dansville Fire Department, the VanDurmes were not injured in the fire and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
This afternoon the home was still covered in smoke, and several vehicles were seen driving to the scene to view the remains of the home.
