CASTILE – A Buffalo couple shared a magic moment at Letchworth State Park Saturday. All alone at the Trout Pond, or so they thought, the young man asked his girlfriend to marry him, and she said yes.
Photographer Melody Jett just happened to be on a neighboring pier at the Trout Pond and snapped these shots. She was thrilled to have captured the moment, but there was just one problem: she had no idea who her subjects were or how to get the pictures to them.
“I witnessed this proposal today 10/15/2016. Please share this album!” posted Jett on her Facebook page on Saturday at 7:46 p.m. “Help me find this couple!!!”
The photos spread like wildfire. Within a few hours, the post passed through dozens of Facebook pages and multiple Letchworth State Park Facebook groups.
At last, on Sunday at 11:31 a.m., Jett posted, “I found them!!! OMG!!!” Someone recognized Matthew Lucarelli in the photo and tagged him in a comment.
Jett and Lucarelli exchanged a few messages over the comment section on the original post, and seem to have exchanged more as private messages. His bride-to-be is Jackie Krajacic. Both of their Facebook profiles says that they live in Buffalo.
“I really hope he and his fiancée aren’t upset. I had only the best of intentions!” posted Jett.
“Check your FB messages! We aren’t upset we are on our way to tell the last person and then we will tag ourselves!” replied Lucarelli.
“Oh thank goodness!! I saw you, and my photographer instinct kicked in!” replied Jett.
“No we are extremely excited and grateful that you were able to capture such a memorable moment for us!” replied Lucarelli.
“You have no idea how worried I’ve been lol. I only had the best of intentions,” replied Jett.
Not everyone on the internet thought that sharing the photos was a good idea.
“Actually, this is kinda rude.. don’t you think if this guy WANTED it to be public, if they were a social media type of couple, that HE would have had a friend hide to capture the moment? People can’t even have a private moment anymore… Just my opinion…” posted Ronnie Bice.
“Does anyone else find it inconsiderate, rude and selfish to share someone else’s private mine without their consent?” posted Colleen M Cardarella. “What if their family and friends see this before they have a chance to call and share the news? If you respect the couple, simply post that you’re looking for the couple who got engaged on that date in that spot and have photos. This post seems to be selfishly done to promote a photography business.”
However, the comments erupted with joy once Lucarelli and Jett made contact.
“I wish someone had taken pics of my engagement… she did a nice thing. don’t be so negative,” posted Holly Fraser.
“such a BEAUTIFUL thing you did…..disregard any and all negitvity! Congratulations to the newly engaged couple!” posted Lisa Hernandez.
“Glad they were found! Congrats to the happy couple!!” posted Felicia Ayers.
“I don’t even know them and I’m tearing up…how beautiful!” posted Nina M LeMorta.
“To be honest, I’d be ecstatic if someone (even a strange) captured my special moment , so I could treasure it forever!!! So I think what this wonderful human did was amazing!!! And I think when they see this pictures they’ll be so thankful. And if not HOW RUDE!” posted Patzy Wardhaugh.
“I bet this story goes viral and is on the Today Show by the end of the week, if not sooner! Very sweet,” posted Melissa Evans.
