, Eric Smith41, of Steuben County, who was charged with second degree murder in 1993 was heard by the parole board on Monday, Oct, 4. Smith earned national headlines, when, at the age of 13, he lured 4-year-old Derek Robie of Bath into a woods, strangled him, crushed his head with a rock and sexually abused him. He was sentenced to nine years to life in prison in a unanimous verdict, the maximum allowed for juvenile offenders at that time. He has been up for parole ten times previous to Oct. 4, always denied.
