UPDATE: Walmart has postponed the date for Shop with a Cop to Saturday, Dec. 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
GENESEO – Local children in need will get a chance to make their Christmas a little brighter by toy shopping with police officers from several local departments on Friday.
This year, Walmart awarded a total of $5,000, half to the Geneseo Police Department and half to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, to be used to purchase gifts and toys that kids pick off of the shelves themselves.
“This is wonderful opportunity for our Deputies and partners in law enforcement to come together in collaboration with Walmart to help those in need,” said Livingston County Sheriff Thomas Dougherty. “The program seeks out those in need to not only supply them with a great gift but also forms a friendship and trust with those in uniform.”
Members of the Geneseo Police Department, Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, and New York State Park Police will participate.
Many participating families were recommended for the program by School Resource Officers (SRO’s) in several Livingston County School Districts.
Kids and their families can take pictures with Santa Claus after checking out their presents at the register, all expenses paid by Walmart.
