LIVINGSTON COUNTY – It has been a demanding but fruitful five years for the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office’s most recently retired officer.
The Sheriff’s Office had a special retirement celebration for K9 Utah as he concluded his final shift on Friday. He and his partner and handler, Deputy Shawn Whitford, were presented a certificate of recognition for more than five years of dedicated service to Livingston County, and Utah received his retirement badge.
“Utah has served and protected Livingston County residents well and will now enjoy a well deserved retirement,” posted the Sheriff’s Office to Facebook. “We thank Utah for his service and wish him all the best in his retirement!”
Since he began at the Sheriff’s Office, K9 Utah has assisted in hundreds of arrests with his partner, Deputy Shawn Whitford, as part of the Sheriff’s ‘Operation Safe Interstate’ on I-390.
The team has interdicted illegal drugs over 100 times and has responded to hundreds of emergency calls.
Utah is retiring due to his advancing age and health issues. He is now Deputy Whitford’s personal pet.
