GENESEO — Gov. Cuomo has proclaimed the week of September 16, 2012 Sheriff’s week and our local office will celebrating the occasion with a display at the county administrative building.
To mark the occasion, the state’s 58 Sheriffs will host events highlighting the history and functions of the office of Sheriff. The Livingston County Sheriffs office has establish agency display within the public area of the county administration building for all to view.
The theme for this years’ celebration is: “Your Sheriff, The People’s Choice for Public Safety.” The theme emphasizes the fact that 55 of New York State’s 58 sheriffs are elected by the people. The New York State Sheriffs’ Association is launching a new public service announcement campaign that will air across the state designed to inform the public about all the public safety services provided by the sheriff’s office.
According to a press release the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office provides numerous services besides the traitional police services. Road patrol, criminal investigation, maintaining the county jail, marine, dive, K-9, mounted, and search and rescue. The Sheriff also takes an active role in community crime prevention efforts, victims’ assistance programs, and drug awareness education in our schools.
