LIVINGSTON COUNTY — Livingston County Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty has issued a ‘No Unnecessary Travel’ directive effective immediately until 3 a.m.
According to a press release from the Sheriff the ‘No Unnecessary Travel’ does not mandate you to stay off the roads but
does strongly encourage motorists to stay off the roads due to hazardous travel conditions including very poor visibility.
At 7:30 p.m. on I-390 vehicles were traveling 40 mph with their hazards on with limited visibility. The Village of Geneseo had not yet plowed the main streets making travel dangerous especially without 4-wheel drive.
The directive has been issued by the Sheriff due to Deputies, as well as plow operators advising of white out conditions and certain highway departments taking their plows off the road because of the visibility issues.
“If you must travel, please put your 4 way hazard lights on and travel slowly and safely.” stated Sheriff Dougherty.
