LIVINGSTON COUNTY — A Lima sex offender has been arrested for failing to meet the terms of New York State Sex Offender Registry after allegedly not providing officials his email address.
According to a press release from Sheriff Thomas Dougherty, Robert Mcloud, 25, was arrested for Failure to Register and to Verify. Allegedly, Mcloud entered the Livingston County Office and changed his address to an address in Lima but while filing his paperwork, Mcloud failed to register his e-mail account as set forth in the New York State Sex Offender Registry Act.
“This crime may seem petty to some, failing to register an email address as required. However, sex offenders are clearly told their terms by the Court and it is our job and our duty to ensure they are complying with all these terms not just some of them,” stated Sheriff Dougherty. “Also, there is a reason that this is made part of their conditions and if not complied with a crime; the internet has made communication very easy via social media. Our office will continue to patrol social media the same way we patrol the streets, doing all that we can to keep our residents safe, especially children.”
