LIVINGSTON COUNTY — Steve Sessler, a Geneseo attorney campaigning for Livingston County District Attorney, got an important endorsement Monday from the Livingston County Conservative Party, according to a Party press release. Sessler is currently running against former Assistant District Attorney Eric Schiener for the Republican Party nomination.
Jason McGuire, acting Chairman of the Livingston County Conservative Party, said “Various candidates were seeking the conservative line. It became clear after meeting with the candidates that Steve Sessler is the best choice. He has the character and the moral integrity that represent our party.”
The Conservative Party has 774 registered members in the County. However, the endorsement could be more significant than the registration numbers suggest. In the last major election, over 3,200 voters voted on the Conservative line.
Beyond the numbers, though, the endorsement could be strategically important. If the State level Conservative Party follows the county party and endorses Sessler as well, this ensures that he will be on the ballot in November with or without the Republican Party nomination. If Sessler also wins the Republican nomination, he would be on both the Republican and the Conservative Party lines.
“It’s the fiscal and social conservatism that our party focuses on.” said McGuire. “The issues we are dealing with you can not ignore. You have to reel in the government programs that are run-away trains right now.”
The Republican primary is scheduled for September 13, 2012.
