Sen. Young is running unopposed in the 57th New York State Senate District, which includes eight towns in Livingston County. She has served in her position since 2005, and now seeks re-election for her two year term.
“We hope to take back full control of the Senate and bring balance back to our government,” said Sen. Young. “We need to stop these radical groups (Working Families Party) coming out of New York City from taking over.”
One of the dominant issues in the New York State Senate is hydrofracking, and according to Sen. Young, her district has more operating vertical gas wells than any other district in New York State, so it’s an issue she is well versed in.
“I strongly support that communities should be able to make the decision on fracking themselves,” said Sen. Young. “I’m glad the courts have ruled in favor of the home rule.”
According to Senator Young’s website, she has received nearly 200 awards and recognitions. Among these many honors are the Fredonia College Foundation Distinguished Service Award, the United University Professions’ 2008 Friend of SUNY Award, Alfred University’s J. Henry Smith Distinguished Public Service Award, and Business First’s 40 Under Forty recognition. For several years she has also been recognized by the New York State Farm Bureau for her support of New York’s farmers and agriculture. She was also named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Olean Rotary Club, and has been granted a lifetime honorary membership in several volunteer fire companies.
“It’s an honor and privilege to work here, especially growing up here,” said Sen. Young.
