LEICESTER – A car that hurtled down York Road toward the heart of Leicester at about 6:00 Friday night crashed hard into a ditch after churning up a lawn just North of Main Street.
At least one front tire was in rags, and the windshield was badly cracked. The caller had indicated that the driver was trapped inside the vehicle, so first responders were extremely cautious on scene. Fortunately, the driver, 20-year-old Mario Ramirez of Mt Morris, was not badly injured.
“It looks like driver inattention,” Chief Deputy Matthew Burgess later told the GeneseeSun.com. “The driver dropped his cell phone, then bounced off of a couple guard rails and came to rest at an earth embankment.”
Ramirez was cut, bruised, and a little shaken, but did not need to be hospitalized. He refused treatment for his injuries on scene.
This was Leicester’s second vehicle accident on Friday. At about noon that same day, two vehicles collided at the intersection of Caledonia Road and Route 20. Fortunately, no one was injured in that incident either.
