AVON – Livingston County’s first ever annual St. Patrick’s Day parade will begin this weekend, on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Avon Central School parking lot, courtesy of driven volunteers and Lifting Up Livingston, a local charity that assists families who are battling cancer.
Lifting Up Livingston says the Parade Route will go from the School Parking lot on Clinton Street down to Genesee Street and end by Milex Parking Lot. Following the Parade, there will be over 13 organizations in the Avon Fire Hall including face painting, balloon sculptures, and games for the kids.
The lineup for the parade includes more than 30 organizations, including Avon Lions Club, Geneseo String Band, O’Donoghue/Welch Families, Avon Cheerleaders, St. Agnes, Joyful Beginnings, bagpipes, and the Lifting Up Livingston truck, as well as first responders from across Livingston County, including Avon Police, Sheriff’s Mounted Patrol, State Troopers, Avon Fire and Ambulance, East Avon Fire Department, Lakeville Fire Department, Livonia Fire Department, Geneseo Fire Department, and Mount Morris Fire Department.
Floats and marchers from local families, businesses, community groups will be judged and awarded for best float.
Several local businesses will also be featuring specials and holiday menus on Saturday for the parade.
Lifting Up Livingston will be hosting a family friendly party at the Village Fire Hall. Limited space will be available at the fire hall for groups and organizations to publicize their events and promote their causes.
There will be a police escort for the parade, and the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office will have members at their Mobile Command Center, and provide Operation Safe Child to all families free of charge following the parade, whereby you can capture identifying information about your child on a SAFE CHILD I.D. card, and if you wish, to have the information stored in a statewide database to be used alongside AMBER ALERT in the case of an emergency, significantly increasing the possibility of bringing a missing child home. Look for the large Sheriff’s Office van, their mobile command center, in the area of the Avon Fire Hall and the Deputies will get you and your child all set up.
Participants will begin staging in the Avon Central School parking lot at noon.
