GENESEO – The bridge replacement and roundabout project for the Rte. 63 bridge between Geneseo and York will mean that there will be only short-term closures as the project nears completion.
At a public comment meeting Wednesday, the NYS Department of Transportation presented their proposal to replace the existing bridge with a ‘modern multi-girder 2-span structure’ with two 12-foot wide travel lanes and two eight-foot wide shoulders. A roundabout will go into the intersection of 63 and Court Street. Both will have concrete drive surfaces.
“I think the roundabout project is an excellent opportunity to make our community safer in a lasting way,” said Hatheway. “I fully support it.”
The current bridge is 68 years old and notoriously in disrepair. The says that the project will address high speeds and safety deficiencies at the intersection.
$8.1 million has been set aside for the project.
Construction is not expected to begin until next year. Anticipated construction time for the new bridge is spring and summer 2019. Completion and tie-in are slated for fall 2020.
The DOT is currently working to address public comments, acquire additional property required to align the roadway, obtain environmental permits, prepare contract bid documents and award the construction contract.
