DANSVILLE — Roswell Park and Tobacco Free New York made a presentation during this past Dansville Village Board meeting so they would consider making Dansville’s parks smoke-free zones.
The organizations pointed out that current New York State Law prohibits smoking on a playground, but you can still smoke in local parks.
“When a community adopts a tobacco free park you are telling people you care about the community and you care about their health,” said Kevin Keenan with Roswell Park.
According to Keenan, $858 comes out of Livingston County taxpayers’ pockets to pay for smoking-related illnesses, including public care for those who can not afford to pay their own medical bills.
Keenan added that multiple communities in the county such as Geneseo and Livonia have already adopted the smoke-free parks policy.
