LIVINGSTON COUNTY – On Friday and Saturday last week, a little questioning went a long way when it came to routine vehicle stops for traffic violations in Avon and Geneseo. Three separate roadside investigations by Livingston County Sheriff Deputies on road patrol led to the arrests of four men on felony charges after they were pulled over for relatively minor traffic violations.
According to a press release by Sheriff Thomas Dougherty, Dusten Rhodes, of Scio, NY, Richard Darringer, of Bolivar, NY, Adam Bortle, of Wayland, and David Jett, of Honeoye were all arrested when they were pulled over and interviewed by Sheriff Deputies on road patrol. Sheriff Dougherty says that arrests like this go above and beyond the routine, and help to both make the county cleaner of drugs and make the roads safer.
“I am extremely proud of the work of our Deputies,” said Sheriff Dougherty. “I love to see proactive police work. Our Deputy Sheriffs are doing an extremely good job of cleaning up the drugs in and around our county. They are also making our roadways safe to travel by getting impaired drivers off the road.”
The first bust, on Halloween, resulted in the arrest of Dusten Rhodes, age 25 of Scio, NY and his passenger Richard Darringer, age 24 of Bolivar, NY, who was also wanted for Burglary charges in Potter County, PA. A routine traffic stop by Deputy Shaun Whitford on Interstate 390 in the Town of Avon led to a roadside investigation and the seizing of 93 bags of heroin from inside the vehicle. Yet further investigation discovered that Jett was in possession of heroin, marihuana, as well as other drug paraphernalia that included a scale and hypodermic needles.
