“The committee has decided not to endorse either candidate,” said Lowell Conrad, the Republican Committee Chairperson. “Both candidates have indicated they want to go to primary so we are just letting it go.”
Conrad stated that regardless of who might have won the endorsement, both candidates stated they would continue to the primary, thus negating the purpose of the committee endorsement.
Candidate Tom Doughterty commented, “I have no issue with the party’s decision and their choice to pass on the designation. That said, the Committee will still play a vital role in this primary, as many voters look to them for their guidance.” Dougherty added, “The committee members work hard for the party and I certainly respect that. I will continue to work as hard as I can to earn their individual support and the support of the people of Livingston County. This is a very important election, and I look forward to a spirited race.”
Szczesniak was unavailable for comment. Conrad, the Committee Chairperson, said that this is the first time he can recall that the Commttee has chosen not to endorce a candidate.
Both candidates have agreed to participate in a formal debate that will be hosted by the GeneseeSun.com.
