LIVINGSTON COUNTY — According to news reports from www.13Wham.com Livingston County Sheriff John York will not be seeking re-election. The news channel also states that the announcement likely sets up another battle for Livingston County Republicans between Investigator Thomas Dougherty and Undersheriff James Szczesniak.
In December, Investigator Dougherty announced he will be running as a Republican candidate. Undersheriff Szczesniak, who was appointed by Sheriff York in 2010, has not yet made an official announcement.
Just last year Livingston County saw one of the most electric races in Livingston County history where Democrat candidate Greg McCaffrey was able to emerge victorious in a three-way race after two Republican challengers came to a tie in the Republcan primary. During the Republican primary Eric Schiener and Steve Sessler came to an exact tie which was broken by the Livingston County Republican committee who voted to support Schiener.
Sheriff York joined the department in 1969 and then served as the elected Sheriff since 1989.
