CONESUS – Join the Chip Holt Nature Center for true stories of ice cold raging rapids, minimal clothes and food, carrying five pound rafts, a snarling wolf in camp, and nothing but the Arctic ahead of you.
On Tuesday, September 16, 7p.m. to 8p.m. at the Chip Holt Nature Center in Vitale Park at the north end of Conesus, join Rick French and his tales of trekking and rafting in the Brooks Range in Alaska with his organization Pack, Paddle, Ski.
“When I was in third grade I wanted to be a forest ranger because that was the only job I knew that worked outdoors,” said French, owner and co-creator of Pack, Paddle, Ski. “Then I went to college and I wanted to be a wild life Biologist, but then I took my first Biology lab and I thought, I don’t want to be stuck in the academic world when there is so much to discover in the real world.”
Long after earning his degree, French is doing what he always dreamed of doing: traveling the world. In 1985, Pack, Paddle, Ski was born. He has traveled to seven continents and 40 different countries and counting. French has even done the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage, which is a six week walk through Spain.
