Bowling alleys will be allowed to open today while “guidance” will be issued today for gyms to reopen.
The Governor’s news comes too late as several bowling alleys ceased business in upstate NY, including the one located in Honeoye Falls.
Asssemblyman Hawley sad he was “thrilled” about the Governor’s allowance. “I had written a letter some time ago to the governor asking for bowling alleys to be opened as soon as possible for the sake of local economies alongside the service they provide citizens in stretching their legs and having some light fun. Our conference had then sent another letter requesting much of the same. It’s good to hear that the governor is hearing us and taking into account the steps needed to ensure that people are protected and remain healthy during this continually challenging time.”
The bowling alleys will operate at 50% of maximum occupancy. Employees and patrons will be required to wear face coverings. Every other lane will be closed. Bowlers must stay at the assigned lane with their party.
There will be cleaning and disinfecting protocols, especially for shoe rentals and shared equipment. Alcohol and food can be served, but bowling parties must stay at their lanes to place orders.
There was no update from Cuomo on when casinos and movie theaters can reopen. Casinos and movie theaters have been closed since mid-March when businesses deemed to be nonessential were shut down.
