CALEDONIA — The Cal-Mum varsity boys soccer team fell to Keshequa Tuesday night by a score of 6-1. Keshequa junior attacker Zach Jaroszek scored two goals in the first half, and the Raiders were unable to recover after the 2-0 deficit.
Almost 10 minutes into the game the Indians scored their first goal when a defensive breakdown by the Raiders left Jaroszeck open at the top of the box for a clear shot on goal, and Raiders goalie Jaron Schultz was unable to make a play on it.
Jaroszeck was able to break free from the Raiders defense again just before halftime and took a shot that slipped by Schultz again, which left Cal-Mum in a 2-0 hole at the break.
The Raiders came up with more offensive opportunities in the second half, including a shot by junior midfielder Aidan Sullivan that sailed just wide of the goal and another shot that Indians junior goalie Kirk Schrier was barely able to get fingertips on to stop. The second half aggression on offense came to a head when Raiders senior midfielder Ryan Keenan sliced through the Indians defense and beat Schrier one-on-one for the first Raiders goal of the game, cutting the deficit to 3-1 with 18 minutes left to play.
But the Indians offense proved to be too much for the Raiders, as they tacked on three more goals in the last 13 minutes of the game to make the final score 6-1.
Cal-Mum (1-3-1) will travel to Avon on Thursday to take on their first league opponent of the season.
