On Wednesday December 17, between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m there will be a child safety seat check at the Geneseo Fire Hall, courtesy of the Geneseo Police Department.
“We have an upcoming child safety seat check event at the Geneseo Fire Hall,” said Eric Osganian, Chief of Geneseo Police.” If anyone needs to have their safety seats checked or installed, we can assist them.”
During these checks, police officers will inspect the seat and its adjustments for imperfections that could injure your child, like proper head restraint and the seat’s orientation in the car.
Since every seat and every child is different, it really helps if your child is also present so the seat can be tailored especially for them.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, if used properly, child safety seats cut the risk of death by 71 percent for infant passengers and 54 percent for toddlers.
In 2009, one woman credited a carseat check by the Sheriff’s Office, along with the safety features of her car, for protecting her kids when a late fall crash flipped over her car with her children inside.
