LIMA – Those pinwheels that you may have seen in Livingston County stand for April’s Child Abuse Prevention Month.
The pinwheels are part of an annual campaign by Livingston County’s Department of Social Services (DSS) to raise awareness of child abuse and prevent it wherever possible.
“Each year the Department of Social Services’ goal is to continue our efforts through this campaign to provide information and awareness about this important issue to the Community at large,” said DSS Commissioner Diane Deane.
In keeping with the slogan of the campaign, ‘Preventing is Protecting,’ an event to raise awareness will be hosted April 27 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Dansville Community Center.
“We are hosting a presentation to the parenting community of Livingston County regarding available services that may assist parents and/or caretakers to safely meet the needs of their children,” said Deane.
Community stakeholders that will be involved in this year’s event include Genesee Valley Health Partnership as well as other Livingston County Departments and organizations.
Resources will also be provided by the Child Protective Staff at the Government Center in Geneseo April 18 from 8 a.m. to noon and April 20 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
