LIVONIA – The Livonia Fire Department is now the caretaker of an artifact from of the World Trade Center.
The piece of one of the World Trade Center Towers was delivered from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to Livonia as part of a 10-year program to disperse 9/11 artifacts to municipalities and nonprofits. Livonia is one of 1,500 entities to receive such a piece.
Firefighters and the community will gather around the piece for a ceremony at 9:45 a.m. on Sept. 11, 2016.
The tall section of steel will be a grave reminder of the 9/11 terrorist attacks as a permanent outdoor monument at the fire hall at 4213 South Livonia Road.
Shuttle services are available from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 p.m.
