There will be a Picklefest in Canandaigua from Aug. 19-21, featuring a competition of the growing popular sport of Pickleball. About 250 people are expected to be competing in the competition at Sonnenberg and Baker Courts for the event. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. each day.
. Organizer Joe Valenti of Pittsford said that prior to the pickleball tournament, there will also be clinics at the Sonnenberg Park courts on East Gibson Street Aug. 15-18.
Valenti is President of the Valenti Sports Pickleball Club explained the game can be a lifelong activity. “We’ve got a lot of older players that don’t want to play tennis on a big court,” he said. “The pickleball court is about a quarter of the size of a tennis court, so you get all the hand-eye coordination and action with a lot less running, but it’s a very competitive game.”
More information on the Canandaigua Pickleball Tournament will be released following the official approval in early July by Canandaigua City Council for use of the courts.
