COHOCTON – Pi Day is getting a delicious makeover at the Cohocton Public Library on Saturday, March 14. Both pi, the mathematical concept, and pie, the delicious desert, will be celebrated at the free Pi Day Party. There will be pi and pie crafts, activities, and snacks, all proceeds will be put towards the Library’s Summer Reading Program.
The library will be the site of some serious fun– pies will be auctioned off to be thrown in the face of public officials. The snacks that will be rounded up for Pi Day are going to be banana moon pies, oatmeal creme pies and other circular snacks. There will also be Monica’s Pies for sampling and a Mini Pie Bar fundraiser where you can make your own pie for just $1. Craft making includes pi bracelets, circle art, decorating pies, and creating cootie catchers. Attendees will also receive plenty of pie presents including pins and magnets.
“This is a great opportunity for kids and their families to get excited about a mathematical concept and raise some money for the Summer Reading Program,” said Hope Decker, Director of Cohocton Public Library. “I love the idea that the whole community can gather at a place like the Library and show the kids that libraries and math are important and fun!”
The event will be held at Cohocton Library from 5 to 7pm on Saturday March 14. Pi Day is an annual celebration commemorating the mathematical constant π (pi). Pi Day is observed on March 14 since 3, 1, and 4 are the first three significant digits of π in decimal form.
Perhaps the best part of of the event is the auctioned opportunity to pie local authorities in the face! Names include Tom Cox (Mayor of Cohocton), Officer Andrew DuBois (Cohocton Police Department), Kelly Murray (Cohocton Elementary Principal), Cherry Walker (Cohocton Elementary Librarian), Matt Bondgren (Wayland/Cohocton HS Teacher and Coach), Tom Carey (owner of Cary’s Grocery), and Hope Decker (Cohocton Public Library Director).
