The lawsuit names Wyoming County, and members of the Wyoming County Board of Supervisors. Dr. Mason started at the hospital in 2014, and in 2017 was put in charge of full-time surgical and clinical services, and was given the title of chief medical officer He later formed Buffalo Bone and Joint in Warsaw, a very popular medical practice, which also contracted for expanded services at the Wyoming County Community Health System. However, when there was a change in administration, the relationship began to deteriorate. In 2020, Mason reported a doctor, also at that hospital, who was performing operations in “what appeared to be an intoxicated or impaired condition” to the state Office of Professional Medical Conduct, causing some resentment within the Hospital administrative staff. The lawsuit alleges that actions made by the new administration, as well as his eventual termination in February 2022 without being given a reason, were retaliation for doing that.
Dr. Mason later contracted to the Bertrand Chaffee Hospital in Springville, NY.
Wyoming County Health System would not comment on this pending litigation.
