On February 24, 2019, at approximately 3:10 p.m. the State Police responded to- 2- 911 calls that a male had jumped off the Susan B. Anthony – Frederick Douglas Bridge. Witnesses state the male jumped off the I-490 westbound lane and off the north side of the bridge.

The jumper was described as a black male 6’0” tall with a slender build and was wearing dark pants and a tan jacket.
The Rochester Fire Department responded to the scene and along with State Police were unable to see anyone in the water. No water rescue equipment was utilized due to the strong winds and dangerous water conditions.
Rochester Fire, Rochester Police and State Police manned every bridge up stream and checked along the river banks but failed to locate anyone in the water.
Initially there was some confusion whether anyone may have jumped and it took some time before witnesses returned to the bridge and told State Police the exact location of where they said a man jumped from. None of the witnesses actually saw anyone enter or exit the water.
There was a pair of tan boots recovered in the water in the location described above, but it’s not certain who they belong to.
