GENESEO – New York State seized the Omega Grill and may sell it to make up for allegedly failing to pay taxes.
A sign taped to the door declares the seizure and warns against ‘tampering with’ the property at 4182 Lakeville Road.
“This property has been seized for nonpayment of taxes and is now in the possession of the state of New York,” says the sign. “Any person who attempts to tamper or interfere with this property will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”
According to the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, a ‘seizure and sale’ is an action that they can take when all other attempts to collect a tax debt have failed. A tax warrant must be filed before the state seizes and sells the real and personal property.
A Geneseo Police Officer was at the Omega during the seizure.
