The Town Board unanimously voted to accept a $234,375 grant from the New York State Soil and Water Conservation Board to build a fully enclosed salt storage facility.
“Currently the salt is exposed to the elements and some of it gets washed into Fallbrook Creek,” said Geneseo Highway Superintendent Larry Levey. “This new facility would have the salt piled up in the pile in the middle, not pushed up against the walls like it is now. That makes it more accessible too.”
A condition of the grant is that the Town spend $78,120. Part of the work will go to Extreme Construction for $301,540. In-kind site work and asphalt will be done by the Town to bring the total expenditures to $78,120.
“Extreme Construction is very qualified and the lowest bidder at $301,540,” said Wadsworth. “This is a good investment. It’s long term.”
