NUNDA – A Dalton man put his phone in the middle of the railroad tracks near his house and captured this incredible close-up video of a machine that he admires but respects at a safe distance.
Bobby Gelser says all he had to do was hit record on his cell phone, set it down just right facing the oncoming train, and stand back.
“The train vibrates everything around,” said Gelser. “I can feel it from my house.Trains are awesome. I have lived here my whole life. I always used to run outside to watch them as they went by.”
Still, Gelser knows how powerful and dangerous trains can be.
“One of my friends, Kaylie Mann, got hit by a train so I understand and respect these huge chunks of metal,” said Gelser.
Gelser remains a train fan. He has taken several videos of trains passing through the area.
This particular rail is part of the Norfolk Southern Railway Southern Tier Line, which famously passes over Letchworth State Park’s trestle bridge in Portageville.
